TOLL PLAZA NAGRI

Minor Toll Posts Nagri Parole, Govindsar, Thein, Basohli, Ropeway, Mandi Madikan, Hat Mashka Kheri, Pattan Barian, Paharpur, Kote Punnu and Goond are peripheral revenue collection posts of Toll Post Lakhanpur

Usually, there is lot of traffic congestion at Lakhanpur, resulting in delay in entry /clearance of goods, besides traffic congestion and other allied problems. It has also added to the problems pertaining to the tourists and Tourism sector as a whole . An idea had been mooted to decongest Lakhanpur and remodel the town as a main gateway to J&K and also construct a good Toll Plaza for Excise & Commercial Taxes, providing modern amenities and facilities.

Since the neighboring Punjab State had already taken steps for decongestion of Madhopur by way of traffic regulation and diversion through Kathlore(Pathankot) for which a bridge on river Ravi has been constructed connecting Pathankot to district Kathua via Nagri Parole. This bridge is popularly called Vinod Khanna bridge ( after MP of the area).

The Jammu and Kashmir government on this side had accordingly planned for systematic diversion from Lakhanpur via Nagri Parole. This would help cater to the traffic clearance from Kathlore into J&K, keeping in view the Excise & Taxation need and avoid tax evasion. It was also found that Nagri is connected via Palli Morh, Naki-Nadoli, Parol to Sadipore, Khokhyal Kathua, Palli and Dina Nagar, spreading around 35 kms , hence the Toll Plaza would cater to such areas as well.

It was expected that 40% of vehicular traffic shall be diverted from Madhopur-Lakhanpur via Nagri , by way of shortening the distance by skipping long route through Himachal Pradesh (Damtal).

SALIENT FEATURES OF TOLL PLAZA NAGRI

The Toll Plaza at Nagri parole will be spread over an area of 38 Kannals and 18 Marals. The proposed complex shall have;

• Eight computerized weigh bridges (Five in import and three in export).

• Parking Yard for 76 Heavy Motor Vehicles

• Office Block for Excise and Commercial taxes Department

• Duplex type residential quarters for DC Excise and DC Commercial Taxes Department

• Four units of double storey flats for ETO’s

• Twelve units of flats for Inspectors.

• Twenty four units of flats for Sub-Inspectors

• Two blocks for 72 Guards in three storey building

• Toilet Blocks

• Provision for water Supply
